The Big Shoe Drive
As you spring clean keep in mind the simple task of donating one pair of athletic shoes will plant five trees! ONE PAIR = FIVE TREES! The entire month of April The Running Well Store will be hosting a Shoe Drive. Each pair of used running, walking or athletic shoes you bring into one of our three locations to donate will qualify you to enter and win a free pair of the new On Cloudsurfers!
Zero Your Carbon Footprint
1 PAIR = 2 TONS.
1 MILE RAN = 13 LBS.
Assuming one pair of running shoes can live for 300 miles the donated shoes will remove 20 tons of carbon. This is because the MORE Foundation plants five trees for every pair of athletic shoes donated. Over the course of 20 years those five trees will pull down 2 TONS of carbon. This means that every mile you run or walk can lead to 13 pounds of carbon offset!

The entire month of April The Running Well Store and On Running are partnering for one big shoe drive! Take advantage of spring cleaning and round up those used athletic shoes. You can bring your donations into any one of the three Running Well Store locations in Kansas City!

On Running is the industry leader when it comes to sustainability. Their latest shoe release, the On Cloudsurfer, truly stands out for its sustainability. To save on water the Cloudsurfer’s yarn is colored using a dope-dying process that requires 90% less water than your standard pair of running kicks. On Running also ditched the plastic overlays and bumped up the shoe’s total recycled content to 30%.
Bring a pair of running shoes into one of The Running Well Stores to donate and you will be entered to win one of three pairs of On Cloudsurfers. The Shoe Drive will be hosted the entire month of April and the more shoes you donate the more chances you have to win!
The Goal
Our Goal is to have enough Kansas Citians donate used athletic shoes so the MORE Foundation plants 5,000 trees! But we cannot do it ourselves. We need your help. Any used running shoes can be put to use. Please help us donate 500 pairs of running shoes so that the MORE Foundation can get to work planting trees!
The MORE Foundation
The MORE Foundation is a really powerful charity that takes your donated running and walking shoes and turns them into trees and economic growth in parts of the world that need it the most. Over the past twenty years, the MORE Foundation has distributed millions of tree seeds to thousands of poor rural farmers, establishing a tree seed bank to assist in the reforestation of Ghana. Partnering with schools, the MORE foundation uses tree planting as part of the student’s curriculum where they learn to plant, grow and understand the life-long benefits of agroforestry. Over a million trees have already been planted, which will generate tens of millions of tree seeds each year.
Three Places to Donate
The Running Well Store has three locations across Kansas City for you to donate your used Running and Walking shoes. Please come visit us in Lee’s Summit, The Northland and in Mission, KS. When you come donate your running shoes an employee will ensure we capture your information for the free pair of On Running Cloudsurfers!
