On Running Cloudrunner 4 Review
On Running Cloudrunner 4
When I found out I would be reviewing the new Cloudrunner from On, I was super excited. I have worn On shoes since we started carrying them at TRWS. I wear a guidance shoe due to overpronation in my right foot so I was very happy to hear that the Cloudrunner falls into the guidance category.
How does it feel?
I prefer a lower drop shoe so I knew I would like the 7mm offset. On shoes are typically lightweight and the Cloudrunner was no different. When I first put them on, I immediately loved the increased cushion that had not been in my previous On shoes. The improved cushioning is obvious when you look at the shoe and I liked that it wasn’t too soft. In a recent staff training with On, I learned that the Speedboard technology is designed to keep this Cloudrunner more rigid, which limits side to side motion. The design of the shoe is very similar to a guiderail type design, which I have worn before and really liked. Having overpronation in only one foot makes it a bit tricky for me to find a shoe with support that doesn’t bother my neutral foot and supports my overpronating foot. The Cloudrunner felt great on both feet.
My first time wearing the shoe was for a two mile walk with my husband. I normally wear a Currex high arch insert in all my shoes but decided to just head out for the walk and feel what the Cloudrunner was all about on its own. The cushion and support were great, but by the end of the walk I felt the familiar ache in my arches so I knew wearing the shoe with the insert would definitely be necessary.
Now, for the opinion part
In our staff training with the On rep, he mentioned that the Cloudrunner’s cushion would make it a good shoe for long work shifts on hard surfaces. I decided to wear them for my shift at the store and was very happy with the support and cushion. After a six-hour shift, my feet weren’t tired or sore. I would definitely wear the Cloudrunner to work in again.
We finally had a break in rain storms to go for a run in the Cloudrunner. I really liked the cushion through the midfoot and how responsive it felt. It gave me good support and cushion for my arches. I am used to running in a zero-drop shoe and was concerned that the seven-millimeter offset would bother me but I had no problems during the run or after.
Who Is This Shoe Good For?
Overall, I am very happy with this shoe. I love the environmental steps that On is taking with their products. They are working on reducing harmful dyes in their processes and the more natural color ways they offer look great. I love that this shoe can be an all-around shoe for walking, working and running.
Someone who is in need of a little guidance in their shoes, then this is the shoe for them. If you are used to wearing the New Balance Vongo, Altra Paradigm, or the Asics GT 2000, then this is the shoe for you.
Who Is This Shoe NOT Good For?
This shoe is not for those of us that prefer a higher offset or for someone that is looking for a MAX cushion shoe .
